#YesAllWomen - Thoughts -

I posted this as a response to someone who posted on an article I shared. I thought it would be good to share here as it generally sums up my feelings on the matter.

"Obviously nobody is saying that all men are rapists, misogynists and murders. The point of the ‪#‎YesAllWomen‬ hashtag…

Today’s Tragedy [Blog]

I got up early this morning to go to a job interview. When I came home, I lay down and took a quick nap. Unfortunately, when I woke up…I was in a different world. A world where the lives of twenty seven people, twenty of whom were school aged children, were taken.

I don’t write this post pretending I have all the answers. I don’t write it pretending I have any of the answers. I write this post knowing strongly in my heart what is wrong and what is right.

Guns were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill. There is no way around that fact. Guns were not invented so people could take a trip to the shooting range and destroy some cardboard cut-outs or sheets of paper, they were invented to quickly and efficiently take life.

I understand that there is a time and a place for a gun. Hunting, for example, comes to mind. War, also comes to mind (though I think we can all agree it would be ideal if this never existed, either). The event in Connecticut today falls into neither of these categories. Neither do the events in Aurora, in Blacksburg, in Columbine or in any of the other countless cities that these tragedies have occured.

Which leads me to the question…why did this happen?

We’re going to hear a lot today from advocates of gun rights saying, “Even if guns are illegal, the sick will find a way to get them” or “There’s no stopping someone that wants to kill someone else”. To that I say one thing: Are we not supposed to try?

The attitude of “nothing will help” is defeatist and stupid. Of course nothing will help if you don’t do anything.

I understand that people enjoy owning guns. I myself have shot guns and enjoyed it. But I think most sensible gun owners should agree that owning a gun is a massive responsibility. Guns are immensily powerful and in the wrong hands can cause immense sadness. So why should we not put in tougher legislation to make it harder for guns to wind up in the hands of those that wish to use them for ill purposes? Sure, they might still be able to find a gun if they’re that committed, but it’ll be a hell of a lot harder.

And by the same token, how does this make things worse for you? If you’re a sane, law abiding member of society who has no desire to ever turn a gun on another human being, then why should you be upset by limiting the sale of firearms to someone who does wish to hurt others? It’s illogical and dangerous.

I don’t like guns. I don’t like the idea of guns. I’d much rather live in a world where they were not neccesarry. Unfortunately, that is not the case. They exist and they are powerful. There is, unfortunately, no changing that. But the one thing we can change is who gets one and how that’s decided.

In the coming days and weeks it’s time to see some serious changes to how firearms are sold and monitored because I, for one, am sick of waking up to horror.

Tonight I’ll be going to sleep and praying that tomorrow I will, yet again, wake up in a different world. This time, however, I’d prefer it to be one with more hope.

Sorry, sorry, sorry…

Yes, it’s been a while.

No, I don’t have a new song yet.

I’m sick again, I have strep throat…So get off my case.

But…good news! My brother, and amazing musician, Max Henry is coming into town this week and I’m going to force him to do a song with me!

Which song should it be? Well, that’s where you come in! Check out the list and help me decide which song should be next! Leave a comment, email me ( or tweet me at @ElyHenry and hashtag it with #crapsongproject.

Or don’t. Whatever.

Got Suggestions? Email me.

Hey guys.

The response to this project so far has been pretty overwhelming. I’m happy you guys are all enjoying my crappy covers of these crappy songs.

I’ve been getting a lot of suggestions for songs to cover and, to be honest, it’s been hard to keep track of them. So I’ve created an email address for all of your Crap Song Project needs. Send in songs you’d like to hear, comments on the blog or whatever sex fantasies you might have about me.

Just send it all in to

I’ll try and work through the initial list of songs first, but every once in a while I might just grab one I like out of the email.

Happy Monday.
